Chasing bittersweet Gold

‘My work is a pursuit of golden moments, their bittersweet memories and a constant endeavor of capturing, preserving and eventually sharing them with the world again.’

Delia Sulser (1988) grew up in the Zurich Oberland, lived, studied and then worked in Zurich. There, in 2016, she began to visually externalise inner processes. She washed away all of the large-scale chalk works from her early years and consequently found self-taught access to other, more durable media. Today, her work covers a varied range from drawing to painting. She consciously chooses technique and medium and is constantly working on developing more clarity and a clearer visual language in her intuitive approach. Fully unwilling to settle, they keep varying in both medium and technique, allowing her to further expand her profession and keep on experimenting and learning. Large format pieces, working with multiple layers, the subject of transiency and the attention to detail are reoccurring elements. A blend of realistic elements and abstract structures conduct a visual dialogue of control and impulse. Immaculate edges, perfect margins and a fondness for even, minimalistic surfaces might be remnants of her time as an optician years ago. She has been a full-time freelance artist since 2020. Her paintings can be seen as reflections of herself and her environment and are multi-layered declarations of love for places, moments and insights. After a year of wandering and an autumn in the Surselva, she moved her centre of life and creative work to Graubünden in 2022, where she now has her studio in the converted Löwenberg Castle in Schluein.
